This project is based on a basic design by Elkayem that I found on the web. It was significantly expanded upon by adding a 16×2 display, a pushable encoder. This way many adjustable settings could be added such as tuning and transpose settings, pitchbend ranges and adjustable output levels for velocity, modwheel and aftertouch. There’s also a built in arpeggiator and an analogue glide circuit.

Different versions

Over the years I made different versions of this converter, all using the same PCB. The first one was a small stand-alone device, which was later upgraded to include a header for easy interfacing with a breadboard. I also made a version for use in my Eurorack modular. Lastly, I used it as a base for a MIDI control box, which added an analogue LFO, noise generator, S&H and multiple outputs to the original design.
